Family Focus Day

For the second consecutive year, the NIPSTA Foundation is sponsoring Family Focus Day as an opportunity for emergency workers - and their family members - to access specialized services to help them deal with the challenges and rigors of their daily routines.  A healthy work-life balance is essential to maintaining productive relationships, both on the job and at home.

On June 3rd, dozens of professional resources will be available at NIPSTA to address topics such as nutrition, insurance, personal finance, health & wellness, addictive behavior, and more.  Admission is available to all at no cost.  The day's agenda includes educational workshops, kid-friendly activities, door prizes, raffles, and free food and beverages.  To learn more about this event, click here.

NIPSTA NOTES

Coming Soon: Trauma/EMS Symposium 2012

The most popular NIPSTA training program each year makes another return on June 4th at the Des Plaines Campus of Oakton Community College.  The Trauma/EMS Symposium addresses issues related to the continuum of care for the injured/ill person.  Among the training topics in 2012:

- The Future of EMS in Region X

- Destructive Impact of Cyber-Bullying

- Burn Management

- Long-Term Effects of Concussions

More than 200 persons will experience an information-packed agenda and an opportunity to network with peers and vendors.  Continental breakfast and lunch service is included as well.  The program is generously supported with funding from Illinois EMS Region X, which enables the tuition fee to remain affordable for all participants.  To register to attend, click here.

An Ever-Expanding Fleet

The NIPSTA Board of Directors recently voted unanimously to approve acquisition of a fire engine that was declared surplus by the Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District - a NIPSTA Founding Member.  Since 1991, the apparatus had served the District well, but was scheduled for replacement with a newer model.  NIPSTA is the beneficiary of this transition from old to new, because the vehicle still has a lot of useful life remaining as a training resource on the Glenview Campus.  The engine will support delivery of several fire training programs, including Basic Operations Firefighter, Advanced Technician Firefighter, Hazardous Materials, Fire Apparatus Engineer, First-In Company Officer, and more.  It is a welcome addition to the NIPSTA fleet of fire service vehicles, which now totals four different engines and ladder trucks.
